Standard 1: Describes how teachers know and understand children's characteristics and needs. As teachers, we need to provide a meaningful curriculum and meet each child at their developmental level. Children can develop at their own pace, and teachers need to be prepared with influential materials to support their learning.
The artifact I have chosen for this substandard 1a is a poster board project done on the domains of a child development done in my Child Development 201: Observation and Management Child Behavior . By knowing and understanding young children's characters and needs, teachers can better support and challenge children. I will continue to evaluate children's domains to understand their characteristics and needs.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 1b is a interview I did on a Asian woman from my Child Development 262: Child , Family and Community. The interview was about her talent and her work ethics in a diverse work place. I will continue to keep and open mindedness to the diverse cultures, learning styles, and close relationship that children have with their families and communities.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 1c is a photo of a child looking at a picture book I made in my Child Development 149: Creative Activities for Young Children. I have included a collection of pictures of children reading books in the literacy area. Through a supportive and engaging environment children will be able to enjoy reading books. I will continue to make age-appropriate books to develop knowledge and create supportive, respectful, and healthy learning environments.
