Standard4: As an educator, I use standard4 in all that I do with children and families. As I help children with everyday tasks and routines, I am modeling ways to take care of their needs and helping them develop the skills of independence. When I talk with children, I am helping them to develop their vocabulary and the use of language.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 4a is a collection of pictures of me and a child doing a 24 piece floor puzzle. These photos will show how well I interact with the child while he worked on the puzzle. Having positive child teacher interactions will help me build a stronger communication with the children. I will continue to display warm, supportive interactions with children and maintain interest in their activities and needs.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 4b is a field trip plan that I created in Child Development 143: Science and Math for the Young Child. The plan was created to teach the children about animal's habitat. Through effective approaches and responsive teaching, children can explore and learn new things about their world. I will continue to use effective strategies and tools to help young children learn and develop well.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard4c is a photo I took of the library area in my classroom. I took this photo to show the cultural diversity in the classroom. Having different cultural books will help children enjoy reading and learning about other cultures around the world. Through these different experiences, children will not only learn about the importance of different cultures, but they will also learn about themselves, as well. I will continue to use books in the classroom to build cultural awareness for children.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 4d I have included a curriculum plan that was created in my Child Development 149: Creative Activities for Young Children. The curriculum plan will show how children gain knowledge through activities and discussions about a particular topic. By focusing on children's individual characteristics, needs, and interests, teachers can promote positive outcomes for each child. I will use this plan to show growth and plan meaningful and challenging curriculum that reach each child at his or her own level of development.
