Standard 3: We use assessment to see where a child stands developmentally. Assessments are ongoing processes by which qualified professionals, encase in a collaborate effective with families to look at all area of a child's development through standardized testing and observation. We can use these assessments to strengthen the area of weakness a child may have. These snapshots of growth and learning overtime help me to identify and anticipate children's strengths and needs.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 3a is a classroom map. The map will show how the classroom is set up for the child to be successful by having age-appropriate materials for a more successful outcome. Mapping creates opportunities to observe children in play situations as well as a learning about contexts.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 3b is a developmental checklist that I did in my Child Development 201: Observation and Management of Behavior class. This checklist was created to evaluate the child's development in the different domains. This checklist allows me to see what area the child was successful in , and what areas we often see challenges in. I will continue to use checklists to make sure that children are being observed appropriate.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 3c is a developmental milestones assessment . I cannot use an assessment that is aimed for older school- age children on younger children. This will not be age - appropriate, and the child will not be successful. The assessment has to be age-appropriate for the child to be successful and to see where the child developmentally lies. I will continue to use the assessment to strengthen the areas of weakness a child may have.
The artifact I have chosen for substandard 3d is an Ages & Stages Questionnaire( ASQ) that I did in my Child Development 201: Observation and Management of Behavior class. This questionnaire was created to see how the child was doing in each area of developmental domains. By using positive assessments to identify the strengths of children, I collaborate with colleagues and families to develop an effective learning environment. I will continue to use these questionnaires to support children's development and learning to improve the outcome of the classroom environment.
